Romans 1:21-23 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Idols are somethings you create and turn to, in your disobedience to God but they were never meant to be there originally. It is hearing a voice that is not of the Shepherd but of the serpent. There's safety in the voice of the Shepherd. The Voice of the Shepherd brings about order out of His correction in our lives. You are always meant to be His child in His Garden walking with Him in His own dwelling Presence, in the Glory. Idols try to steal away the Glory but the Lord will not allow His Glory to be given to idols, He is a jealous God and pursues His bride relentlessly. Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD, that is My name;And My glory I will not give to another,Nor My praise to carved images.There are idols in each one's lives on so many levels. When one turns to the Lord the veil is torn and the idols are stripped off of the person's life.
You know it's an idol when its not from the Lord but even then sin tries to reign in the mortal bodies in the absence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Without the help of the Holy Spirit one cannot overcome the flesh and it's passions and desires. Turn to the Lord when you are in the valley or at the peak. He is there for you, He has plans to prosper you and not to harm you. He is able to stop those cycles of desires, fall and rise hindering your spiritual growth.
Idols keep one captive but the Lord gives freedom. You cannot stop doing that which is wrong when it is your idol. When you turn to food for relief, it is being idolised but food will never give you a relief, it cannot heal you. Deep down when there is a vaccum in you, when you don't know what will happen next, when you have problems chasing you down like Pharoah and the red sea, you will lookup and this is the way that the Lord will make you turn to Him fully stripping you off all those idols one by one. The red sea crossing was only the beginning of the stripping off the egypt out of the heart of the Israelis. It then led to many phases where the Israelis kept murmuring allowing those past idols again and doubting the Man of God who once fought against Pharoah that kept them in slavery. This is not something that Moses or God looked forward to see from the children of Israel.
I was crushed by their adulterous heart which has departed from Me, and by their eyes which play the harlot after their idols; Ezekiel 6:9
He is a good shepherd that brought Israelis out of darkness into His light but then they loved darkness because of the mixture of people among them and the egypt in their heart. The Lord hates mixture. Even then in the wilderness God protected Israel saying touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm. But He gave them commandments and set them apart for Himself.
Be joined to Him alone. Do not yield to idols. Those that follow idols were drowned in the red sea. Those that worship the living God walked through the dry land in the middle of the red sea and crossed to the other side untouched by the waters unharmed by the enemy.
1 John 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
